Joris Van de Moortel (° 1983 Belgium)
- “ Being Alice; The instructors at the White Rabbit ” -
curator:
Gery Van Tendeloo (B)
gery.vantendeloo@skynet.be
Vernissage: Friday 25th August at 8.00 p.m.
All Welcome.
Opening Hours:
25th September – 23th October 2009
Wednesday-Saturday 15h – 18 h
For his exhibition at the White Rabbit, Van de Moortel presents his
latest intervention with his ‘team of instructors’.
Either Van de Moortel builds everything by hand or he ‘hires’ his
team for renovating and reshaping, constructing and deconstructing.
In the two new stop-motion videos Van de Moortel presents, he shows
us how well organized, his team of little craftsman are, and how they
prepare the exhibition in a most unusual setting…
The animation videos depict the instructors preparing the set up for
the show in a scale model of the actual space. Van de Moortel created
this scale model after visiting the space, going back to the studio
and recalling its characteristics and reconstructing them based
solely upon memory. This resulted in a half realistic, half
imaginative micro-recreation of an existing architectural situation
wherein he literally drops his team and allows them to operate. While
working together within the model, the team creates the show,
constructing the work, building and rebuilding; eventually it’s all
up to them…
Joris Van de Moortel is a Belgian artist based in Antwerp. In
December 2009 he will complete a two-year residency at the HISK,
Higher Institute for fine Arts in Belgium. (www.hisk..edu). since
2008 he has been supported by the Hoet Bekaert Gallery, Ghent,
Belgium. For more information please contact the gallery at http://
