The Lehigh Valley Arts Council celebrates its fifth year as the regional partner of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) with the announcement of the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA) Project Stream grant recipients in Carbon, Lehigh, and Northampton counties.
More than $31,500 in state grants will be awarded to thirty-two applicants at the Awards Ceremony on Thursday, October 1, 2009, at America On Wheels Museum, 5 North Front Street, Allentown from 5:30-7:30 PM.
“In the current economic climate, this program is playing a larger role in the arts funding equation in the Lehigh Valley,” said Randall Forte, Executive Director of the Lehigh Valley Arts Council. “This year we had a record number of sixty-one applications submitted—more per capita than any other region in the state.”
Each year, the Lehigh Valley Arts Council invites individual artists, arts organizations, and community groups to apply for PPA Project Stream Grant funding, which supports a wide range of arts projects or activities benefiting local arts communities and underserved audiences. Prior to the June 19, 2009 grant deadline for this year’s Project Stream grant, the Lehigh Valley Arts Council offered free workshops in each of its three service counties to facilitate and to further explain the PPA program requirements and restrictions.
Grant activities reach a wide range of constituents, from young children to senior citizens. All projects will take place between September 1, 2009 and August 31, 2010. The average size of a grant is $990.
The awards ceremony is an integral part of the grants process and allows locally-elected officials to present checks to the grant recipients from their area. The Arts Council traditionally rotates the ceremony around the region, and for the second time the event will be in Allentown. “We are very excited that America On Wheels will host the ceremony this fall,” says Forte. “We can help promote their wonderful facility to the arts community.”
The Lehigh Valley Arts Council serves as a regional voice for the arts. Its mission is to promote the arts; to encourage and support artists and their development; to assist arts organizations; and to facilitate communications and cooperation among artists, arts groups and the community. Through collaborative partnerships, it continues to support the community through education, research, professional development seminars and cooperative marketing initiatives.
