GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., September 23, 2009 – On September 24, from 9AM-2:30PM, join us at one of the largest school days in Grand Rapids’ history. This event, called ARTcation, will give students an opportunity to see and learn about the artwork on exhibit for ArtPrize. Nine cultural organizations in Grand Rapids have developed and planned this event over several months this summer. The event is expecting 1,900 6th-12th graders to move through each of the four learning stations:

•    Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts: Materials and Process, hosted by UICA and Grand Valley State University.

•    Ah Nab Awen Park: Responding to Art Through Writing, hosted by the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park and the Public Museum.

•    Grand Rapids Art Museum: Technology and the Visual Arts, hosted by the GRAM and the Arts Council of Greater Grand Rapids.

•    Old Federal Building (former GRAM): Democracy & Developing Your Vote, hosted by the Humanities Council Grand Rapids and the Grand Rapids Public Library.

UICA’s Education Department seeks to engage the public in meaningful visual and cultural experiences through the investigation of contemporary art. UICA offers a variety of educational programs, including our Urban Clay Studio, Expressive Arts Program, and ArtWorks Youth Program.
