Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of one of Toronto's oldest landmarks and the 10th anniversary of Artscape Gibraltar Point with a series of memorable events.
September 25 - October 17, 2009

With just a few days to go before the big party, we’re pleased to confirm some of the amazing talent you’ll be able to experience all weekend long. This jam-packed two day extravaganza promises something for everyone – open studios, visual art, readings, guided tours, musical performances and more! Don’t miss out on a spectacular party – a great way to wind down the last days of summer at Artscape Gibraltar Point on beautiful Toronto Island.RSVP at http://agp100th.eventbrite.com

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25
We’re starting right at the end of the workday - Shadowland Theatre will be greeting guests at the 5:30 pm ferry to Centre Island. Enjoy a musical performance while taking the infamous beltline and be welcomed at Centre Island by Shadowland’s stilt walking procession to Artscape Gibraltar Point. Upon arrival, join us for the official greeting and kickoff to the weekend with Celia Smith, Artscape Vice President of Operations and L. Robin Cardozo, CEO of the Ontario Trillium Foundation. After that, the evening is yours to enjoy – take in a performance tour of the building with Lo Bil or watch looped short films by Brad Harley and Mike Davey, Shadowland Theatre, Velcrow Ripper, Lien Chen Lin, Kathleen Doody, Wende Bartley and Jacky Sawatzky.

You can also experience a performance outside the lighthouse with Pam Patterson, Leena Raudvee, John OUGHTON, readings with Julia Tausch, Guy Ewing, Mary Lou Zeitoun or listen to Jacquey Malcolm on cello. Roam about the hallways to see the featured open studios from 6 – 10pm. We’ll wrap up the official portion of the evening with greetings from Tim Jones, Artscape President and CEO, and the Island Committee Tribute with Leida Englar and Julie Stone. Then head to the beach by way of the west lawn to see Patrick Decoste’s projections and off to the bonfire for banjo music with Jason Benoit, readings by JD Pipher, and a performance by Yuula Benivolski and Lisa Cristinzo.
FREE (cash BBQ & bar)

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26
First day here or think you missed something the day before? You can still catch the looped short films, and the studios are still open. Come and experience the work of Yuula Benivolski, Sarah Pupo, Susan Gardner, Pat Jeffries, Marsha Stonehouse, James O’Shaunessey, Helena Kvarnstrom, Ryan Noth, Doug Tielli, David Pellittier, and Anna Friz. Take a moment to examine Warren Hoselton’s work, and listen to the bands playing all afternoon featuring Shelby Lamb, Jennifer Castle, Doug Tielli, the Moshpit Orchestra, Selina Martin, Soul Shakers, and Dale Morningstar.

If you’re a history buff, the Toronto Island Archives exhibit is a three week exhibition featuring photographs from the Toronto Island Archives collection – witness the past 100 years of Island history at this show, curated by islanders Emily Fulton, Eric Zhelka & Peter Holt. In addition, Jimmy Jones, Long time Islander and past Toronto Island Public School employee will be offering historical tours and Manuel Cappel will be giving guided tours of the lighthouse during the afternoon.

We said family friendly and we meant it – Shadowland Theatre is featuring Stilt Walking, Costume Displays and a Parade, and face-painting by Christopher Pinheiro is a must – something for everyone on our anniversary. RAIN OR SHINE
