The Metabolic Studio Twain Tour: Historic Bridges Excursion

This December, the Metabolic Studio teams up with L.A. Creek Freak for a new installment in its “The Twain” Trolley tours.The December tours will showcase a dozen of Los Angeles’ iconic historic downtown bridges. These monumental City Beautiful bridges, over the Los Angeles River and in Downtown L.A., were built between 1906 and 1932 and represent a hopeful forward-looking moment in the city’s history of growth and expansion. Many of the beautiful concrete-arch spans are targeted for demolition; this tour will spur conversations on the bridges’ significance - past and future.

The Twain will depart and return to The Metabolic Studio, 1745 North Spring Street, Unit 6, Los Angeles CA 90012

This tour is free, but space is limited; reservations are strongly recommended - please RSVP to lacreekfreak@gmail.com
Note: tours include three short walking stops (approximately 5 minute walks) – wear comfortable walking shoes.

All tours will include commentary by Joe Linton, author of Down by the Los Angeles River and contributor to the L.A. Creek Freak blog. Each trip also includes special guest conversationalists.

From Object To Mythology
Strawberry Flag is a revisionist vision of the American flag as a self-sustaining system raised by Lauren Bon and the Metabolic Studio at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration (WLA-VA) from July 2009 to October 2010. An artwork in the form of a veterans’ program, Strawberry Flag nurtured reclaimed strawberry plants with an experimental aquaponic system using salvaged water and fish. to vist Strawberry Flag's website or visit the Strawberry Flag Facebook for more information.

What is the Metabolic Studio?
Derived from the Greek word for change, “metabolism” is the process that maintains life. In continuous cycles of creation and destruction, metabolism transforms nutrients into energy and matter. Working to sustain these cycles, theMetabolic Studio transforms resources into energy, actions, and objects that nurture life. Led by artist and philanthropist Lauren Bon, it is a studio for practice at the intersection of art and philanthropy. There are two distinct arena's within the Metabolic Studio: Farmlab and Chora. Farmlab is dedicated to the preservation of living things in often-hostile urban environments. Chora supports the intangibles that precede creativity.
