New Paltz presents the entirely student written & produced play Wendy at Parker Theatre

NEW PALTZ The New Paltz Players and the Department of Theatre Arts at the State University of New York at New Paltz present the original play Wendy on Dec. 3 & 4 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 4 & 5 at 2 p.m. in Parker Theatre.

Written by New Paltz student Rachael Brandt, the original play Wendy is an adaptation of the popular young adult novel of the same name by Karen Wallace.  The production is directed, designed, and performed entirely by New Paltz students. Admission to the play is free.

Wendy Darling lives the perfect life in a lavish household in upper class Victorian England... or so it seems.  In actuality she lives in a confusing world of adultery, abuse and thoughts of suicide.  She takes comfort in her dog, Nana, and her mentally ill friend, Thomas.  Through exploring Wendy's world we come to understand why it is important to grow up, but only when ready.

This presentation is part of the Black Box series produced by the New Paltz Players.  New Paltz Players annually produce a schedule of play-readings, experimental works (including 24 Hour Theatre), and both new and revival full-length works as part of an exciting alternative theatre season.

In conjunction with the play, a lecture will be given by the novel’s author Karen Wallace on Dec. 2 in Lecture Center 108 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Wallace, who resides in London, is coming to New Paltz to support this project.  Her discussion will focus on socio-cultural perspectives using photographs and paintings from the Edwardian period.
