Soumik Datta is one of the most acclaimed Sarod players in the
world today. A "British
Sarod Maestro" (Time Out), his playing takes you on an
exploration of time: from slow grandeur to fast, ecstatic rhythms. Having
collaborated with Beyonce,
Talvin Singh, Akram Khan and Bill Bailey, Soumik, comfortably in
his twenties is a British Asian star in the rising: 'a must for those who find Indian music intimidating'
(Songlines Magazine).
In a response to the motif of the comet, Soumik will present new
work, developed alongside percussion virtuoso Berhard aka Taalis. With abstract
movements on the electric Sarod fused with the colors of the drums, the artists
take a closer look at the idea of the comet as a harbinger of change, as a dark
mystery, shooting through deep space. The show, gilded by Soumik Datta's Sarod
with its haunting melodies and rich percussive tone, ultimately questions our
own perception of self, identity and being like the lonesome comet in this
increasingly jam-packed world.
