LUXURY SWISS
WATCHMAKER MONTRES CORUM SARL,
LEVINSON JEWELERS AND
DEPARTURES MAGAZINE HOST RECEPTION TO CELEBRATE THE ARMORY SHOW 2011
AND TO DISCOVER THE
ART OF TIME
The
ART OF TIME – Luxury Swiss Watchmaker Montres Corum Sarl, is
excited to celebrate Art Basel 2010 with an exclusive cocktail party for the
upcoming Armory Show 2011 with co-founder Paul Morris. The
soiree, taking place this Friday, December 3, at the Raleigh Hotel, will also
be hosted by Levinson Jewelers and Departures Magazine, published exclusively
for Platinum Card and Centurion members of American Express. The
swanky crowd will enjoy light cuisine, sip on specialty cocktails by Patron and
enjoy music by DJs Nick Cohen and Jamie Biden.
Paul
Morris began his career as an art dealer in 1983 working as an Associate
Director – and eventually as Director – at Hirschl and Adler Modern
in New York; seven years later he continued as Director of Anthony
d’Offay Gallery in London. Morris returned to New York in 1993 to become
a private dealer and art advisor, and opened one of the first three galleries
in Chelsea the following year, a pioneer in a neighborhood that now has the largest
concentration of contemporary art galleries in the world. As a gallerist he
launched the careers of artists such as Jim Hodges, Bill Jacobson and Tom
Sachs, and represented influential figures like Oliver Boberg, Robert Crumb,
Ewan Gibbs, Andrew Grassie, David Leventhal, Tracy Moffat, Kay Rosen and John
Schabel.
It
was also in 1994 that Morris founded The Gramercy
International Contemporary Art Fair, a hotel-based contemporary art fair
at the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York along with Matthew Marks, Colin de Land
and Pat Hearn, three young New York art dealer friends.
The fair was also held in hotels in Miami and Los Angeles, and thanks to its
rapid success it evolved into The Armory Show in 1999.
The
Armory Show quickly became the most important contemporary art fair in the
United States featuring new art by living artists. It became part of MMPI
in 2007, and Morris was named the Vice President of Art Properties for the
company. In 2009, The Armory Show expanded to include a new section, The Armory
Show – Modern, and the fair’s mission expanded to include the best
art of the 20th and 21st centuries. Paul Morris currently oversees seven
international fairs: The Armory Show, Art Chicago, Art Toronto, NEXT (in
Chicago), VOLTA (in Basel) and VOLTA NY and the newest addition to the
portfolio, Los Angeles Contemporary Art Forum.
Additionally,
Armory Focus is the The Armory Show's invitation-only section devoted to the
best galleries from an important art community. Armory Focus offers selected
galleries an opportunity to showcase their program in New York City, home to
many of the world's most active art collectors and collecting institutions.
The 2011 edition is dedicated to galleries from Latin America in
celebration of the region's increasing importance in the international art
scene and of its culture's vital presence in New York City.
