defying the winter blues and in wanting to keep your creative juices flowing,
designboom would like to announce our latest competition asking participants
to radicalize the PORSCHE CAYMAN in a visually, stimulating way.

RADICALLY PORSCHE:
the PORSCHE CAYMAN signifies fun, agility, speed and sportsmanship,
all of which are the basic foundations of each PORSCHE sports cars. the CAYMAN recalls the
legendary 550 spider from 1953, housing a pure sports engine located at the centre of the vehicle
to improve the distribution of weight, agility and ensure smooth handling.
we expect to receive innovative and original pattern designs for the CAYMAN model range
that enhance the visual appeal of the sports vehicle. we want to be surprised by your refined
'all-over' designs, repeating or non repeating patterns, whose motifs will translate
well into a design covering the entirety of a PORSCHE CAYMAN car.

FUJITSU design award 2011:
human centered designs, should focus on the user's perspective.
designboom and FUJITSU teamed up to organize an international design competition with
the aim of bringing innovation to people's lives through next-generation computing.
'a life with future computing' is based on Fujitsu's 'shaping tomorrow with you' brand promise,
an initiative aimed at identifying new scenarios and implementing product ideas requested by customers.
57,000 euro total cash awards.
winners will be announced during milan's design week in mid-april 2011.

a few days before its official opening, designboom visited the new Dar HI, an exclusive eco-retreat in nefta, in southern tunisia. it is located at the foot of a palm-tree oasis, at the edge of the golden dunes of the sahara. nefta is an important religious village, a platform of sufism and a 'star wars' movie was shot in the neighboring village and the set is still alive to visit.

parisian designer matali crasset envisioned an experimental eco-retr eat and spa in nefta, a tiny village at the foot of a palm-tree oasis in southern tunisia. Dar HI is a compound with 17 units, with minimalist furnishings and brightly-colored walls. the Dar HI is crasset’s first foray into architecture. designboom visited the place before its official opening.

01 - the subject of the international competition is:
A LIFE with Future Computing

with the spread of ICT, the ability for people to make diverse connections via networks with
other people in all daily life situations have increased, through a variety of devices such as PCs
and smart phones. as a provider of ICT products and services, Fujitsu strives to create a
new society that contributes to people’s everyday lives. our aim is to make computing
technology a familiar part of people’s life so that it may be used conveniently
by as many people as possible. this competition is held to make the future lifestyle of people
richer and even more fun, and to give a concrete shape to the future as Fujitsu sees it by
promoting the use of the ever-changing technology and dramatically expanding the possibilities
of our services.

the award is composed of two categories:
- the LIFEBOOK category which studies what PCs will be like in 2013, the near future,
and
- the LIFE-DESIGN category which studies what ICT computing will be like
(including service concepts) ten years from now in 2020.

grand prize: €30,000 euro for 1 work
runner-up prize: €10,000 euro for 2 works (one selection for each category)

the PORSCHE CAYMAN signifies fun, agility, speed and sportsmanship,
all of which are the basic foundations of each PORSCHE sports cars. the CAYMAN recalls the
legendary 550 spider from 1953, housing a pure sports engine located at the centre of the vehicle
to improve the distribution of weight, agility and ensure smooth handling.

PORSCHE spa italy (the italian subsidiary of the stuttgart sports car manufacturer),
brings forth this competition to invite those who have an abundance of imagination,
a passion for cars and a resourcefulness to achieve amazing and unexpected results,
to participate.

we expect to receive innovative and original pattern designs for the CAYMAN model range
that enhance the visual appeal of the sports vehicle. we want to be surprised by your refined
'all-over' designs, repeating or non repeating patterns, whose motifs will translate
well into a design covering the entirety of a PORSCHE CAYMAN car.

PORSCHE will realize the top four designs on four real CAYMAN model range sports cars.
the designer of the highest ranking submission, who fulfills the guidelines of applying for a
masters degree at the scuola politecnica di design, milan, italy, will be offered a full paid scholarship
for a masters degree in visual design in collaboration with the scuola politecnica di design.
