The concert is the latest installment in ETHEL’s signature collaborative project, TruckStop®, which creates innovative new work through collaborations with artists from a vast array of genres and geographic regions. Founded in 1998, ETHEL ranks as America’s premiere post-classical string quartet, bringing their refreshing exuberance and imaginative programming to contemporary concert music by the likes of Steve Reich, Don Byron, Mary Ellen Childs, and John Zorn. Collaborators have included David Byrne, Ensemble Modern, Andrew Bird, and Polygraph Lounge, and the group has played to packed houses at venues ranging from Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and BAM to the Sydney Opera House, the annual TED conference, and the Venice Biennale.
The concert is part of the World Financial Center’s Festival of Light and Sound, a month-long holiday celebration that includes the Sephardic folk rock outfit Pharoah’s Daughter, caroling, live music, and one of Manhattan’s most dazzling indoor light displays.
