The Golden Table - A performance with the citizen of Gdansk

The latest series SIMULTAN by Kyungwoo Chun consists of photographs, which are
arranged as diptychs. They show the same age groups of people from two different
perspectives.
While Chuns earlier portaits has arranged a dialogue, he extends this dialogical situation now
on a larger circle protagonists. The two recordings that form the diptychs were recorded
simultaneously with two differently positioned cameras and long exposure during an interview
situation. The participating persons were aware that they were observed from two angles.
Due to the long exposure is shown a compressed situation, which in reality is not perceptible.
For the viewer is made possible in the diptychs a new perspective on the portrait subjects,
which puts his own view into question.
Kyungwoo Chun plays with the common experience (or everyday experience) of each
observer, that events of the individual, visual perception of every individual are interpreted
differently and therefore there are always misunderstandings. Viewers will keep in this
exhibition no clear picture of exhibited photos in memory, but only the experience of two
hanging side by side images that are combined in the memory of its own new image.
Unlike the created illusion of the sequence of movements in the cinematography, Chun
experimented with two simultaneous perspectives, which give a continuous compression of
time and dialogue in a given period and in two images.
Chun's works raise questions about the potential of the media presentation on video and
photography. They cause an interaction between play and imagination - of what is shown and
what has disappeared.
