Dear Friends,
We knew 2010 would be a difficult year for arts and culture. State funding for the arts in Michigan hasn’t been this low since 1974. Tragically, our state is now ranked 48th per capita in arts related funding.
In response, UICA is vigorously strengthening its commitment to bringing quality arts education to Michigan students and beyond. UICA served more than 7,000 students, 80 schools and 150,000 visitors in the past year alone.
In 2011, we will offer educators an exciting new series of professionally produced videos and curriculum as well as access to an expanding online library of artist interviews and lesson plans. Our dedicated educators and curators are developing innovative and comprehensive classroom tools, schools tours, career workshops, and much more.
UICA cannot accomplish this work alone. We need financial support so that we can make these resources free/affordable for teachers and their classrooms as well as students in our nationally recognized ArtWorks program.
Thanks to our matching grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), you can now invest in these vital resources and have your contribution doubled, matched dollar for dollar by federal support.
Please consider a gift to UICA’s annual fund today. An investment in UICA empowers the contemporary arts, our school partners and our future generations.
Thank you and Happy Holidays,
Elizabeth Goddard
Director of Education and Expressive Arts
