Price Tower Arts Center Hosts Free Sunday Social
BARTLESVILLE, OK—The public is invited to a Free Sunday Social at Price Tower Arts Center for its current exhibition, William Schickel: Spirit Made Manifest. The social, on December 19th, will include free admission to the gallery and refreshments for guests.
William Schickel: Spirit Made Manifest includes photographs and architectural drawings of several of his major architectural projects, including the transformation of an 1813 dairy barn into an inspiring worship space and oratory at Grailville, a Catholic community of laywomen in Loveland, Ohio. He also renovated Abbey of Gethsemani, Bardstown, Kentucky, working with the famed writer and monk Thomas Merton on the design. Schickel was also prolific in creating independent works, and the exhibition features paintings and stained glass from each period of his career.
The Free Sunday event will include a special hands-on craft project for children. Families can work together on creating Paper Plate Snow People. The exhibition traces the work and life of the artist from his student days at Notre Dame through his death in 2009.
“We are very pleased to share this exhibition with our community. It highlights a lifetime of work from a Midwestern artist,” said Debra Woodall, marketing manager for Price Tower Arts Center. “We really believe people will be impressed by the beauty and diversity of William Schickel’s work.”
William Schickel: Spirit Made Manifest is made possible through the support of ConocoPhillips, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Oklahoma Arts Council. The exhibition was organized through Katharine T. Carter and Associates, in conjunction with the William Schickel Gallery.
Price Tower Arts Center will be open from noon to 5 p.m. for the event. The craft activity will begin at 1 p.m. For more information about PTAC or the exhibition, call 918.336.4949 or visit pricetower.org.
