Tamarind Art Presents Slippages - Recent works by Kathy
Smith
Opening Reception: 14th December 2010
6:30pm.
Exhibition runs through December 15 - February 5, 2010
Slippages is a 2D/3D animation, oil on canvas, hologram
and stereoscopic installation about the mysteries of time life and
consciousness. Partly inspired by the missing chapter 18 of Joan Lindsay's
'Picnic at Hanging Rock', Slippages show the correlation of three-dimensional
time to three-dimensional space and how the evolution of creative processes such
as drawing, painting, photography, animation, installation and interactivity can
map the non-linear or multiple time perception. Following the structural
elements of the three dimensions of time theory discussed by early twentieth
century time theorists P.D. Ouspensky, J.W. Dunne, and J.G. Bennett, artist
Kathy Smith uses cutting-edge technology such as Adobe CS5, Massive and
Pixologic Z-Brush to create realistic 3D portraits seamlessly disintegrated into
two-dimensional paint strokes, emulating the shift from one dimension to the
next. Smith's unique vision stands out in skillful use of hi-resolution digital
panoramic photography and virtual set creation utilizing Autodesk Maya
reflecting true amalgamation of science, philosophy and religion. As Alisdair
Foster wrote in his paper Art in a Post Newtonian paradigm: "Art is the language
of perception and science has delivered perception as the only
reality."
