5 Questions
If you haven't met Kate Thompson, then you've definitely met her plants, like the ones pictured below. When she's not busy in the ceramics studio, Kate's the one keeping all the flora green and healthy around here. We caught up with her in the studio and asked her our 5 questions.

1. When are you the most creative?
I have absolutely no idea. I don't think I have a specific time.

2. Who's your celebrity doppelganger?
People used to tell me I looked like Joanie Mitchell.

3. In a game of rock, paper, scissors, what is your weapon of choice?
I don't think I ever played that game!

4. What is your guilty pleasure?
I suppose I would have to say chocolate.

5. Can I buy you a drink?
Well, sure!
A Salute to the Sun
Artists Mark Jeffery and Judd Morrissey welcome in their newest exhibition

Ten men, each holding a glass of wine, stand silently in front of large bay windows. Their figures span the length of the narrow catwalk. As the sunlight slowly recedes behind them, they raise their glasses and drink. And so, The Precession begins.

Join artists Mark Jeffery and Judd Morrissey as they raise glasses in salute of their new exhibition, The Precession. The exhibition uses digital projection, borrowed and original texts, animation and performance to explore history, labor and the night sky.

On Tuesday, December 21 from 4-5pm, the artists will welcome their newest feat with a wine toast to the winter solstice, the beginning of the longest night of the year. Share a glass of wine with us as we welcome our newest exhibition.

This event is free and open to the public.
I choose to get involved
How a small decision can make a big impact

In 2010, all of America changed the way we made decisions. We started paying closer attention to the bottom line, making our money go further and our decisions more impactful.

Now we recognize that when we choose to get involved with a project, organization, or person, that decision should make a difference.

At the Art Center we call it "Supporting Local".

Support Local means that when you support the Hyde Park Art Center, you have a direct and measurable impact on the people we serve. When you decide to donate $25, $50, $100 you teach high schoolers to express their creativity while building leadership skills; you support the careers of emerging artists, you ensure that art remains free and accessible to the over 45,000 kids, teachers, neighbors, and artists who use the Art Center's services each year.

Now, doesn't that sound like a solid investment?

Make the decision to get involved today. Help us reach our goal of getting 700 people to Support Local by making a donation or becoming a member.
