Two of Hooshang Khorasani's works on paper will be added to Lake Eustis Museum of Art's permanent collection. Leading up to that, the paintings will be displayed in the Florida museum's "Paperworks 4 Me II" exhibit that runs from Dec. 10 through Jan. 10, 2011. The paintings – "Through the Glass Darkly" and "Window Glance" – are part of Khorasani's "Window Series." They are mixed media on paper; each measures 22x28 inches.
Khorasani is a Ruston, La., resident and operates Hooshang Studio, which has locations in both Ruston and Orange County, Calif. The artist statement concerning his "Window Series" is:
"The subject of this work is a beautiful, mysterious woman – the lady that you see always, everywhere, but you don’t know her. With her face in the shadow, her identity is only partly disclosed. I like to think that each time that a viewer looks at my paintings, there will be something new for them to see. With my work, I seek to find the energy and inner life within my subjects without fully revealing them. I try, as it were, to unveil the mysteries and the beauties of the world around me."
Use of paper as a primary element was required for acceptance of artworks into the Paperworks 4 Me II show. Juror for this year's competition was Ryan Burkhart, co-founder of Firsthand Editions in Charlotte, N.C.
Burkhart serves as editorial arts coordinator for Southern Review Magazine and directed Flying Horse Editions Fine Arts Research Press at the University of Central Florida-Orlando from 2001-08, where he collaborated with other artists to create fine prints and art books. His work is widely exhibited.
Lake Eustis Museum specializes in contemporary art from the Southeastern United States.
