Mint&Serf Unveil New Installation at District 36.

NEW YORK - District 36 invites you to celebrate Mint&Serf: an immersive installation set within the new Garment District nightclub. Over the last few months the ambitious duo have been creating what is surely to become one of NYC’s iconic walls, presented as a layered collage following nightlife’s colorful history.  The three-room installation was completed in collaboration with Red Bull who are no strangers to recognizing bright new talent.

Born in Moscow and Brooklyn respectively, Mint&Serf are Mikhail Sokovikov and Jason Aaron Wall.  They took to the streets of NYC, which acted as a canvas for their creative vision, producing a vast range of artwork including large-scale murals, paintings, photographs, sculpture and graffiti.  After launching The Canal Chapter in 2005 followed by The Stanton Chapter in 2008, Mint&Serf (otherwise known as The Mirf) have extraordinarily crossed relationships between street art and civic spaces.  Most recently Mint&Serf curated rooms at the Ace Hotel and in doing so have set the bar high for originality and imagination.

Dedicated to dance music enthusiasts, District 36 is the perfect space to showcase Mint&Serf’s colorful personalities.  The two have been inspired by NYC nightlife fixtures of the 80’s and 90’s; reaching out to Lucien Samaha and Osvaldo Chance Jimenez who happily gave their contributions, as well as taking inspiration from fellow graffiti writers Mint&Serf have had the pleasure of working with over the years. District 36 evokes memories of losing oneself to music for hours upon hours and The Mirf guarantees there are more good times ahead.

The buzz surrounding these two have already caught the attention of press and media in the art scene and beyond at BrooklynStreetArt, as well as in Blackbook Magazine.
