The Pepperdine University Fine Arts Division announces several music and theatre department performances, listed below, during the months of January through April 2011.

The programs are part of the University's Mary Pickford-Stotsenberg Performances Series.

A Keyboard Conversation® with Jeffrey Siegel
In this "concert with commentary," pianist Jeffrey Siegel will speak briefly about each composition before performing the work in its entirety, concluding the program with a short Q&A. The program, titled "Gershwin and Friends," features well-loved American pianistic treasures, including, among other works, the rarely performed solo piano version of Rhapsody in Blue, Aaron Copland's humorous Cat and the Mouse, and the Pepperdine premiere of the unpublished Meditation on a Wedding of Leonard Bernstein. Siegel will perform on Pepperdine's recently purchased Steinway concert grand piano.

Featuring the world premiere of Fanfares to Fast Track by Pepperdine's composer-in-residence, N. Lincoln Hanks. Also featured: Pepperdine adjunct professors Andrew Malloy, trombone, and Dustin McKinney, trumpet. Malloy will perform a work by Soren Hyldgaard titled Rapsodia Borealis, and Malloy and McKinney will join forces for a performance of Joseph Turrin's Fandango.

More than a century after its publication, Louisa May Alcott's chronicle of growing up female in Civil War-era New England is as beloved as ever. In 1998 Mark Adamo set the story as an opera, which has met with glowing reviews from critics and audiences alike. "Beautifully wrought, tightly executed, and consistently entertaining" (Los Angeles Times).

Perhaps the most famous love story in all of literature, this tragic tale of the star-crossed relationship between two young scions of the Montagues and Capulets--aristocratic Italian families who happen to be in a nasty feud at a most unfortunate time--has been fast-forwarded to a future, apocalyptic world rife with gang warfare.
