Forget theory… at CURATORS COLLEGE you will be hands-on involved in the actual production of a major professional art gallery exhibition opening this summer. Topics include the aesthetics and practical concerns in choosing artists, selecting specific artworks, approaching galleries, understanding which art is hung where, the coordination of press materials, the production of a catalog, sales techniques, de-installing, shipping and negotiating with artists, institutions and collectors. You will be interacting with professional, working artists and their representatives on a weekly basis. This non-accredited on-site gallery practices seminar will be held Saturdays on a Bi-Weekly basis in and around Downtown Los Angeles.


INSTRUCTOR: Mat Gleason. Mat is the editor and publisher of Coagula Art Journal, which he founded in 1992. He is a regular contributor to the Huffington Post on the subject of contemporary art. He has curated dozens of solo and group shows in galleries across Southern California over the past two decades.


Classes meet at Noon on alternating Saturdays beginning January 22, 2011
(Feb 5, 19, March 5, 19, April 2, 16 & 30 and May 14 plus two optional field trips and many independent meetings as you assist in curating an art show from the ground up). Tuition, automotive transportation and enthusiasm are the only prerequisites!
