Dear Friends,
We are grateful for your support, which has provided vital opportunities and exposure for more than 9,000 visual artists who have applied to Artadia since 1999. Our national network and our enduring relationship with you make Artadia unique. At a time when diverse segments of the population continue to struggle, and support for culture is still trending down, sustaining the foundation of creative practice—the living artist—is more relevant than ever.
I hope you'll donate to Artadia’s annual fund before the end of the year and support creative culture at its source.
Artadia has ambitious plans for 2011 including the launch of a biennial publication, a national Exhibitions Exchange, and vital professional services for artists around the corner and across the country. Earlier this month you heard first-hand from 2008 Artadia Awardee Theaster Gates about the role Artadia has played in his professional growth. Theaster wrote, “The success that I am experiencing today has everything to do with Artadia's willingness to believe in my practice, take risks on artists of note and of promise…” Theaster Gates is a great example not only of innovative artistic practice but also of the wide impact artists have on their respective communities.
In 2010, we've expanded our network of artists living and working in communities around the country for the 11th consecutive year through our awards program and artist residencies while creating new support systems to help them succeed. Our artists accomplished a lot over the past year. Not only in their vocations as artists but through their roles as teachers, civic-minded citizens, mentors, and advocates of the imagination. I hope you receive the Artadia Insider e-newsletter and follow their success with us.
Visionary support from a wide range of individuals like you make our work possible. Please give as generously as you can to Artadia’s Annual Fund. Your support will have an enormous impact on artists, their careers, and communities in 2011.
Wishing you all the best for the New Year.
Respectfully,
Christopher E. Vroom
