Hibernators Ball Saturday & Sunday, January 22 & 23 Put on your PJs, pack up your teddy bear and head over to Wave Hill! In the morning, make an animal mask at the Family Art Project and hear tales of hibernating creatures. Later in the day, enjoy a sleepy cocoa concoction to help you nap through the rest of the winter. Then put on your mask and waltz with music-maker extraordinaire Jody Kruskal. A stop in The Shop at Wave Hill rounds off the day with some cozy gifts that'll be sure to make you want to cuddle up. Horticultural Lecture John A. Gwynne & Mikel Folcarelli: The Rakes' Progress: The Evolution of a Garden Wednesday, January 19 John Gwynne, a Harvard-trained landscape architect, and Mikel Folcarelli, a sculptor and global head of visual identity for Façonnable, trace the stages in developing their own garden in coastal Rhode Island, beginning with fiendish plant collecting, then designing the space and learning to better grow plants there, and now starting to develop a wild meadow garden with native flora. Winter Workspace This winter Glyndor Gallery will again be transformed into studios for artists, representing an array of artistic practice. Artists will be in residence over two, six-week sessions, drawing inspiration from Wave Hill's gardens and unique natural setting. Public programs kick off with a Knitting Workshop on Saturday, January 29. Workspace artist Ruth Marshall leads a workshop that teaches knitters to create designs from life working with multiple yarns and colors. By studying Marshall's animal photos, participants design and knit a four-inch swatch. Winter workspace programs continue in February and March, including tours, workshops and open studio days. Plant of the Month Vriesea spp.: Many hybrids of this evergreen, epiphytic bromeliad have been cultivated for their spectacular flower spikes. Cultivars also exhibit an attractive variety of color and banding in their foliage rosettes.
