Painted Violins comes to Translations Gallery
|
DENVER, COLORADO - 12/30/10 -
Translations Gallery is proud to sponsor the Seventh Annual Painted Violin Fundraiser. We will feature hand-painted violins that will be put up for auction to benefit the Denver Young Artists Orchestra (DYAO). The violins are making a tour of several galleries throughout Denver and will be at Translations from January 13th through the 22nd. The opening reception will take place January 13th between 5:30pm and 8pm.DYAO was created as part of the Denver Symphony Orchestra to provide youth orchestra programs. Their mission is to inspire and educate young people around the city to become serious musicians performing at a professional level, offering unique cultural opportunities to the Denver community.
Additionally, Translations Gallery is thrilled that one of its artists, Rob Williams, was selected to paint one of the violins that is to be auctioned. Rob is a self-taught artist with a background in graphic design. He says that he "likes to think of [his] work as a visual metaphor for the way [he] lives [his] life." For Rob, the wood surface of the violin was familiar territory, as he works mainly on wood panel. However, the project also introduced new challenges such as the form of the violin. Rob's work has a musical quality to it, making it a perfect fit for the Painted Violin Project. The natural whimsy in his work comes from layers of simple shapes and bright, diverse colors done in materials like paint and graphite.
