ONLINE PREVIEW: Vernissage 2011 Preview

LeBasse Projects is pleased to open the new year with a one week exhibition and preview of 2011. Included are some of the artists the gallery will be exhibiting throughout the year.

Vernissage will present work from artists including Yoskay Yamamoto, Andrew Hem, Mike Stilkey, Shark Toof, Herakut, Edwin Ushiro, Melissa Haslam, Thomas Doyle, Nate Frizzell, Ken Garduno, Matt Haber and more.

The gallery has an exciting series of solo exhibitions planned for 2011 as well as upcoming news about a second museum curatorial project, 2011 Fair schedule, and additional exhibitions outside of Culver City. Please join us this weekend for a preview of the coming year.

January 22nd :: Ahn-Nyung | Hello

'Ahn-Nyung | Hello' is an exhibition of multimedia works by four Korean artists exploring theconceptual and visual currents igniting the Korean contemporary art scene today. CuratorJae Yang mines the vanguard of South Korea's dynamic gallery scene to deliver the Americanaudience an unprecedented survey of works that are as effusive in their naivete as they are expansivein their aesthetic achievement.

As a whole, 'Ahn-Nyung | Hello' uncovers a culture in transition in which memories are mutable, synthesis abuts tradition, and experience is subject to a regimenof creative re-envisioning.

Featured artists include Hyung Kwan Kim, Seok Kim, Yeonju Sung, and Jin Young Yu.

SugiPOP! at the Portsmouth Museum of Art :: Closing

LeBasse Projects' curatorial project 'SugiPOP!: The Influence of Anime and Manga on Contemporary Art,' at the Portsmouth Museum of Art will be closing January 16th. If you are in the area make sure to visit the exhibition before it ships back to Los Angeles. Check with the Museum for their schedule of lectures and discussions around the exhibit.

The exhibition opened on October 13th and featured the work of approximately 30 artists tracing the originations of manga, the rise of JapaneseContemporary Art and shows how the art forms have influenced artists around the world.

The exhibition features an international roster of artists including Japanese mastersHokusai and Kuniyoshi in a display of original Edo period woodblock prints. The exhibitalso features Japanese Contemporary artists Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara,Yoshitaka Amano, Mr., Ai Yamaguchi, Junko Mizuno and Hisashi Tenmyouya. International artists contributing to the exhibit include KAWS, Gary Baseman, SimoneLegno, Audrey Kawasaki, Tomokazu Matsuyama, Yumiko Kayukawa, Seonna Hong, Hush,Morgan Slade, Edwin Ushiro, Luke Chueh, Andrew Hem, Mike Shinoda, SharkToof, Yoskay Yamamoto and more.
