Eclectic concert features variety of musical, theatrical styles

ANN ARBOR, Mich.---The University of Michigan's Montage website features the latest news about the arts, creative endeavors, collaborative projects and engaging events.

To visit the site, go to www.montage.umich.edu. This week's features include:

--Making of Collage: This much-anticipated concert is a showcase of musical and theatrical talents of U-M students. The concert is Saturday, Jan. 15.

--The Wonder of H20: A long list of events, concerts, exhibits and lectures are among the highlights as U-M's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts explores an array of water issues. A musical ice concert will take place Jan. 12 on the U-M diag. For more information on the Water Theme Semester, visit: http://watersemester.com/.

--A Journey East: U-M's Symphony Band will tour China in May. A student band of 80 musicians has been selected to perform and participate in an unprecedented cultural exchange. The trip is the result of U-M President Mary Sue Coleman's initiative to develop a cultural and economic dialogue with China.

--Mining Modernism: The U-M Museum of Art's latest exhibit offers an imaginative alternative history of 20th-century art. "Mai-Thu Perret: An Ideal for Living" runs through March 13 in the A. Alfred Taubman Gallery.

--Colossal Fossil: A new whale skeleton exhibit at U-M's Exhibit Museum of Natural History represents decades of research.

--Images of Byzantine: The U-M Kelsey Museum's photo exhibit captures the mystery of the Byzantine era. The exhibit runs through Jan. 23.

--Poet for a Generation: U-M's Khaled Mattawa has received two highly acclaimed awards, and some critics contend he just might be a poet for a generation.
