FILMS
My Dog TulipThursday, 7:30pm; Friday & Saturday, 5:30pm; Sunday, 2pmThe distinguished British man of letters, J.R. Ackerley hardly thought of himself as a dog lover when, well into middle age, he came to adopt Tulip - a beautiful, yet intolerable, 18-month-old German shepherd. To his surprise, she turned out to be the love of his life, the "ideal friend" he had been searching for in vain for so many years. In vivid and sometimes startling detail, the film reveals Tulip's sassy, often erratic behavior (and very canine tastes) and Ackerley's fumbling but determined efforts to ensure an existence of perfect happiness for her. Beautifully animated by Paul and Sandra Fierlinger, it is the first animated feature ever to be entirely hand drawn and painted utilizing paperless computer technology, and featuring the voices of Christopher Plummer, the late Lynn Redgrave, and Isabella Rossellini. Directors: Paul & Sandra Fierlinger 2009 USA 83min. NR 35mm. See the trailer!HOWL Friday & Saturday, 8pm Poetry Readings prior to each screening from UCO's Tim Bradford
James Franco stars as the young Allen Ginsberg - poet, counter-culture adventurer, and chronicler of the Beat Generation. In his famously confessional, leave-nothing-out style, Ginsberg recounts the road trips, love affairs, and search for personal liberation that led to the most timeless and electrifying work of his career, the poem Howl. Meanwhile, in a San Francisco courtroom, Howl is on trial. as prosecutors set out to prove that the book should be banned, while suave defense attorney Jake Ehrlich (Jon Hamm) argues fervently for freedom of speech and creative expression. The proceedings veer from the comically absurd to the passionate, as a host of unusual witnesses pit generation against generation and art against fear. HOWL is simultaneously a portrait of a renegade artist breaking down barriers to find love and redemption and an imaginative ride through a prophetic masterpiece that rocked a generation and was heard around the world. Directors: Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman 2010 USA 90min. R digital HD. See the trailer! Buy advanced tickets online! Dinner & A Movie is $28 per person and includes movie ticket. Reservations recommended. Call (405) 235-6262 OKCMOA Film Schedule
