Dear Patina Artists & Friends,

After years of writing newsletters for our gallery artists, I've decided to include our wonderful gallery friends in the newsletter conversation, too. I like this newsletter format. As much as I've accepted the "new media," I still can't bring myself to "blog" about the gallery. A product of the Woodstock era, I still need to write to actual people whose faces I know.

Patina is now in its 12th year! Many of you have been a part of the gallery, in some way, for the entire time. It really requires the mutual support of artists, clients, friends and staff, to complete the "soul stirring" cycle that allows Patina to grow and improve. We are lining up an exciting calendar for 2011 and look forward to many more creative years on West Palace Avenue in Santa Fe.

Allison and I want to thank our artists, from the bottom of our hearts, for the amazing works you have sent us this past year. We are honored to represent you. And collectors, thank you for your part in supporting the gallery and our artists. We also want to thank our wonderful staff. Allison and I couldn't keep Patina in such amazing order without their support. They are fabulous to work with. These folks help ensure that all of you are "being served" to the highest standard possible. They live in the details of "the world according to Patina."

We had many great shows this year: a group exhibition/ fund-raiser, a new artists exhibition, individual exhibitions with Merete Larsen, John Iversen, Atelier Zobel and Nick Bernard. An important national clay conference was also held in Santa Fe, this fall. The gallery showed works by "guest" artists and I participated as one of the panelists, as well. These are all ways we continually strive to create not just a beautiful gallery, but an active gallery, too. Artists and clients, all, help complete the gratifying circle that sustains it.

On the subject of circles, I was thrilled to be able to work in my own studio for a few months, to produce the new mobiles for "Circlings"  which opened in December. In this world of automation and immediate response time, Patina becomes somewhat of a nostalgic experience, and we like it that way... And great news, I am honored to say that the New Mexico Museum of Art may acquire one of my new mobiles for its permanent collection!

Thank you all for a great 2010. For Patina, it was a year full of programming in partnership with some of the the city's most prominent arts events, the International Folk At Market and of course, Santa Fe's famous Indian Market. This programming is part of our effort to support non-profits both in our local community and nationally. Just last year alone, we made donations upwards of $20,000 to more than a half dozen different organizations dear to our hearts.

2011 is shaping up to be a different kind of year for Patina....We will host a series of joint events, where two artists share the stage at the same time. We talk about "dove tailing" them. We have arranged exhibitions pairing artists Laura Foster Nicholson and Andrea Williams, Todd Reed and Atelier Zobel, and Polly Whitcomb and Claire Kahn. We also plan a holiday exhibit with Barbara Heinrich. Stay turned for further information.

For those who haven't been here for a while...consider a visit to Santa Fe. The town's bubbling with things to do and if you need suggestions, let us know. We'll be happy to help. Allison and I are here most days, and with enough lead time, we may even be able to squeeze in a quick bite or a coffee with you.

I'd like to mention that we, at Patina, are very proud to share the works of so many really talented and amazing artists. They dedicate their lives to creating beautiful and important works. We want to thank our friends who support them and allow them to continue their work. It means a great deal to all of us.

I want to close by asking you to let us know what you think of this newsletter format. Included here are images from the past year's great times! Hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed the people and events they feature.

Have a very good New Year and let's stay in touch,

Warmly,

Ivan
