We're back in 2011 with a week of acoustic and electroacoustic music, drawing on all sorts of traditions: Rod Williams is joined by his ensemble Options (comprising piano, bass, percussion, tabla, sitar, and Kathak dancer); Juraj Kojs curates a night of multimodal music performance for MATA Interval 4.2; and Jason Lescalleet & Graham Lambkin release their second album Air Supply.
1.12 @ 8 pm
Rod Williams' Options
Pianist and electronic musician Rod Williams will be joined by his new ensemble Options: Mark Helias (bass), Bruce Cox (percussion), Ray Spiegel (tabla), and special guests Neel Murgai (sitar) and Aditi Bhagwat (Kathak dance). Rod Williams began in the jazz world, but now composes mainly for multimedia often integrated with electronics.

MATA Interval 4.2:
In One
Juraj Kojs curates a night where seven composers/performers will introduce their approach to extending, hybridizing and abstracting the principles of instrumental design in a multimodal musical performance. Spencer Topel will present a piece for violin and live electronics. Jorge Variego will perform a composition for clarinet and a joystick controller. Juraj Kojs will manipulate the Slovakian sheep bells with digitally modeled cyberbell structures, and the Zeta cello, novel K-Bow controller and narration will be the focal point for Sarah O’Halloran and Margaret Schedel. Chikashi Miyama’s hands will sculpt musical structures in the air over his non-haptic Peacock instrument, and Paula Matthusen will present a piece for live laptop ensemble.
1.15 @ 8 pm
Jason Lescalleet &
Graham Lambkin: Air Supply CD Release
Graham Lambkin and Jason Lescalleet released The Breadwinner (Erstwhile) in early 2008. This concert marks the release of their second album, Air Supply. They describe their music as “musical settings for common environments and domestic situations,” and almost all of their source material is taken from field recordings made around Lescalleet’s house. Air Supply is a departure from The Breadwinner, but retains the malevolent undercurrents of their previous album.

Share: free audio & video jam
Sunday nights at ISSUE are host to a come-one-come-all group of musicians and video artists, collaborating in a jam called SHARE. Those who work with audio need only to bring an instrument or other sound-producing device and an XLR, RCA, or 1/4" cable (if amplified). The video jam is a multi-user live synthesis, in which participants are able to jointly compose the visual output. Bring your laptop/camera/Amiga and VGA, S-Video, or RCA cables.

Daniel Carter
(two-day residency)
ISSUE Project Room is pleased to present the first in a series of micro-residencies featuring two nights of music with multi-instrumentalist Daniel Carter. Carter is a ubiquitous figure in the New York music scene—nearly every day and night he sits in with a collaborator's group or performs with his own quartet WAKE UP! Carter will be joined by four groups of collaborators throughout this two-night residency. Each group will function as a leaderless collective, bringing in musicians who practice a wide range of styles and techniques.
Admission: $5, both nights
