La Petite Mort Gallery presents..

‘APPRAISING YOUR COLLECTION’
BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE COLLECTORS GROUP
PRESENTATION BY  JENNIFER CARTWRIGHT
Thursday January 20, 2011/ 7pm

Hi everyone,

I'd like to wish you a Happy New Year and all the best for 2011! The
Collectors’ Group at La Petite Mort Gallery has been meeting in a
friendly and informal fashion since September to share, question, and
understand more clearly the art-making process. We will be presenting
the fourth in our series of monthly talks on Thursday 20 January 2011
at 7 p.m., and would like to invite you and a guest to join us at La
Petite Mort Gallery.

We are thrilled to announce that Jennifer Cartwright, of Cartwright
Appraisals, will be our guest speaker. Jennifer’s presentation,
“Appraising Your Collection,” will cover three key areas including
assessing your collection, understanding what an appraisal is and what
purpose it serves, and recent trends in the Canadian art market.
Jennifer’s presentation will be followed by a question and answer
period.

Jennifer Cartwright is an independent appraiser, whose area of
expertise is contemporary Canadian Art including Canadian Aboriginal
Art and Inuit Art. Jennifer received her training through the
International Society of Appraisers and the University of Maryland in
2005 and, prior to appraising artwork, she worked as a curator of
Inuit Art at the Carleton University Art Gallery.

Jennifer focuses on appraisals of private and corporate collections,
and has experience, as well, in appraising large public collections
including those of the Canada Council Art Bank, the City of Ottawa’s
Public Art Collection, the Ottawa Art Gallery’s Firestone Collection,
and the Indian and Inuit Art Collection at Indian and Northern Affairs
Canada.

The Collectors’ Group is inclusive rather than exclusive, and we’re
aiming to be informative, amusing, unusual, direct, enlightening,
challenging, and entertaining. We’d like people to have fun, connect
with each other, and learn something about art and collecting along
the way.

The yearly Membership fee is $50 for adults and $25 for students.
Members are encouraged to invite a guest at no extra charge to each of
the sessions.

For more information about the presentation by Jennifer Cartwright or
about the series, please contact me.

Thank you and best wishes,

Julie
