Art Stage Singapore 2011

Chan Hampe Galleries will participate in the inaugural Art Stage Singapore art fair at Marina Bay Sands Exhibition and Convention Centre from January 12, 2011 to January 16, 2011 (general admission from January 13, 2011). Our booth (E4-03) will feature a solo presentation by Singaporean artist and curator Michael Lee. He was recently included in the 8th Shanghai Biennale, Shanghai Art Museum (2010) and a selection of his work is currently part of Floating Worlds at Chan Hampe Galleries @ Raffles Hotel until January 10, 2011 alongside co-exhibitors Genevieve Chua and Grace Tan.

Om Mee Ai @ Raffles Hotel

Continuing the momentum gathered with our grand opening in August 2010, Chan Hampe Galleries @ Raffles Hotel opened its second exhibition in October, a solo presentation by Korean-born Singaporean artist Om Mee Ai. The exhibition showcased a selection of her works from 2007 to present day including her latest "Nebula" series. Having gained recognition among Singaporean collectors with her unique geometric works consisting of elaborate grids with multiple translucent layers of colour, Om continues to push the boundaries of geometrical abstraction creating evermore complex and intricate works.

HIV - Show Me The Love

As part of the World AIDS Day Campaign 2010, Chan Hampe Galleries in collaboration with the Health Promotion Board showcased a variety of works by emerging Singaporean artists and designers at the Drama Centre, National Library Building and Chan Hampe Galleries @ Tanjong Pagar. The project aims to promote the importance of self-awareness and open communication with loved ones about HIV as well as showing compassion to those living with HIV. Artists and designers featured include Sheryo Ang, Kelvin Atmadibrata, Marla Bendini, Casey Chen, Aiman Hakim, Oh Ji Ji, Sean Koh, Rachel Lim, Ahmad Maslan (aka Skope), Ezzam Rahman, William Sim, and Samuel Woo. The project was organised by art consultancy firm Arterial Creative Pte Ltd.

HIV – Show Me The Love continues at Chan Hampe Galleries @ Tanjong Pagar until December 24th, 2010.

John van der Sterren

Chan Hampe Galleries is proud to be representing a collection of artworks by West Java-born, New Zealand artist John van der Sterren currently held in the Singapore office of Credit Suisse. Considering himself a Fauvist painter in the European tradition, Van der Sterren’s works are characterised by his use of bold, vibrant colour and confident line. Although he is based in Indonesia, he travels throughout the Asia Pacific region extensively capturing his experiences through paint. Amongst these are impressions of Singapore including Boat Quay, The Old Supreme Court, and Armenian Street.
