GRAPHIC DETAILS:  CONFESSIONAL COMICS BY JEWISH WOMEN

Cartoon Art Museum Event:  Closing Reception

Thursday, January 27, 2011, 7:00 – 9:00pm

Featuring “Corked” the comic wine tasting
Suggested donation: $5

San Francisco, CA:  The Cartoon Art Museum hosts a closing reception for the Graphic Details exhibition with special guests Corked the Comic, offering an evening of wine tasting and comics.  Francis Sanders and Dave Griffin team up on their wine industry related cartoon Corked the Comic, offering wine tasting and tips on what to look for and how it works.  In addition, the creators are willing to take request for caricatures as well as comics and wine labels available for purchase.  A perfect excuse to get one last look at this historic exhibition before it departs San Francisco.  Wine tasting provided courtesy of winetasting.com, a division of 1 800 Flowers.

About the exhibition:

While the history of women in comics is well-documented, and the Jewish contribution to the art form widely acknowledged, Graphic Details:  Confessional Comics by Jewish Women will be the first museum exhibit to showcase the singular voices of female Jewish artists whose revealing diaristic and confessional work has influenced the world of comics over the last four decades.

Some bare their bodies.  Some expose their psyches.  All are fearless about sex, romance, politics, body functions, experiences, emotions, and desires.

Many of the original artworks on display have never been exhibited in public until this show.  Artists run the gamut from pioneering Wimmen’s Comix and Twisted Sisters artists of the 1970s and 1980s to superstar younger artists:

  • Vanessa Davis (Spaniel Rage, Make Me a Woman) - USA
  • Bernice Eisenstein (I Was a Child of Holocaust Survivors) - Canada
