2. What's your favorite form of petty crime?

Mexican Coke and Mexican Squirt.

4. What was the last exhibition you saw?

The Day of the Dead exhibition at the National Museum of Mexican Art.

5. What music have you downloaded recently?

Bessie Smith and Nneka.

The Precession

Art Corps deadline this Friday

Applications for the Hyde Park Art Center's volunteer corps due Friday, January 14.

Art Corps is the Hyde Park Art Center's team of super engaged volunteers. If you are an artist, arts educator, art lover, or just want to get involved in your community then Art Corps is the place for you!

For one year, Art Corps members work hands on with staff, faculty and exhibiting artists. The three Art Corps teams - Gallery Guides, Studio Assistants, and Street Team -assist the Art Center in various program areas including leading gallery tours, assisting teaching artists in our School and Studios, and helping with publicity effort at community events and around the Art Center.

If you are interested in making a difference in your community through volunteering, send in your application today. Applications are due Friday, January 14.

Cocktails, Clay and Jazz

Special guests lePercolateur joins us for Cocktails and Clay

This Friday from 8 p.m. to midnight, Cocktails and Clay gets even classier with the addition of Chicago's own hipster gypsy jazz band, lePercolateur.

Playing music in the style of Django Reinhardt, lePercolateur will have the Art Center swinging and singing along. For a preview of their sound, click here or watch this.

As usual, there will be a 45-minute clay session, exhibitions galore and a cash bar sponsored by Chant Restaurant. $15 sugggested donation.

January 17: Days Off School

Next Monday, let your kids learn to be subversive

Guerilla Art is back for the first Days Off School program of the year!

Young artists will make their own artworks (sculptures, sound art, and more) and install them in unexpected places.

The class helps kids think creatively by blurring the boundaries of where art “ought” to go.

Class starts at 9 a.m. and goes until to 3 p.m. Tuition is $80 for members and $100 for non-members. Don't forget to pack a brown-bag lunch!
