"Into The Void, a Group Exhibition Includes Paolo Mara"
2011-01-08 until 2011-01-29
Icosahedron Gallery
New York, NY, USA United States of America

Icosahedron Gallery, one of West Chelsea’s premier art galleries, is pleased to welcome the new year with “Into The Void”, a group exhibition featuring a mixture of American and international artists. “Into The Void” will showcase the unparalleled artistic abilities of Robert Berry, Thérèse Boisclair, Eunah Cho, Reanna Francis, Amandine Lepoutre, John Ligtenberg, Viktor Majdandzic, Paolo Mara, Noura Masri, Alexander Motyl, Matt Roe, Maureen Stephenson, and Angela Wales Rockett. This collective of artists truly exhibit the innate gift of vitality and pure talent in today’s contemporary art world. Paolo Mara has been a Premiere POrtfolio Artist at absolutearts.com since 2009.

American artists, Robert Berry, Alexander Motyl, Matt Roe, and Angela Wales Rockett, pave the foundation of contemporary abstract art through each of their distinct and provocative aesthetics. Robert Berry uses pedagogical techniques derived from influential modern painters, Piet Mondrian and Mark Rothko, to interweave the intricate and the simplicity of inherent contemporary art in its purest form, bringing art back to its pure essentialism. Alexander Motyl, who displayed his series of monochromatic Russian soldiers in December, joins Icosahedron Gallery again this January with a new series of vibrant abstract pieces indicative of Pollock that, like Berry, strip the art world back to the foundations of painting by using an interplay of color, line, shape, space, and texture. Matt Roe from Connecticut has drawn inspiration from Jackson Pollock as well to bring a world of abstract vibrancy harmoniously juxtaposed with Roe’s surrealist style to drive viewers into the void, a place where Roe places between “everyday life and the energy world”. Lastly, Angela Wales Rockett from Tacoma, Washington perfectly partners the world of the abstract with landscape art to beautifully create multitextured seascapes which possess a haunting quality that draw viewers deep into the abyss of the Contemporary American Abstract world.

Processing deeper into the chasm of the abstract art world, lies the works of Canadian artists, Eunah Cho and Thérèse Boisclair, and English artist, Maureen Stephenson. Eunah Cho, a Korean artist based in Ontario, uses a strong contrast of colors, line, and the repetition of action to create exemplars of pure abstract art on Hanji, traditional hand-made Korean paper. Thérèse Boisclair, also from Ontario, uses acrylics on tissue paper to exhibit alluring bursts of color and textured pieces that she coins as her “perfect medium”. Maureen Stephenson, from the north-east coast of England, uses water as the central figure of her reflective and beautifully textured works paired with her inspiration from the Romantic movement to instill the true joy and passion of the artist.

European artists, John Ligtenberg, Viktor Majdandzic, and Amandine Lepoutre are an absolute trifecta of European abstract art exhibiting qualities in their works that are insurmountable on the vast art scale. John Ligtenberg from The Netherlands uses warm colors and a blend of acrylic and oil paints to portray an amalgamation of chaos and order exhibited in the beautifully destructive quality of his works. Also, from The Netherlands, Viktor Majdandzic uses wonderfully woven geometrical shapes to display a world of visual concepts to support a visual perception of infinite possibilities. Like Majdandzic, Parisian artist, Amandine Lepoutre, uses geometry and emotions congregate with perspective and color where lines meet or clash to create a series of work that capture the ever ending motion of the library.

Delving deeper into the microcosm of abstract works, “Into the Void” will also feature works from Reanna Francis, Noura Masri, and Paolo Mara whose works intertwine the abstract and figurative art worlds. Reanna Francis, an Australian artist, uses evocative depictions of the female figure, eroticism, and a breathtaking spectrum of colors to highlight the strength of her troubling life’s tale. Noura Masri, a Middle Eastern artist, masterfully works her expressionistic and free figurative forms to create an investigative journey into the artist’s world. Lastly, Paolo Mara from Italy will display his abstract and abstract figurative pieces that take viewers on a transcultural journey alongside the artist’s past experiences.
