AOP Gallery presents "A Celebration of Kodachrome" from 18 January to 10 February 2011 with a private view on Wednesday 19 January 2011, 6:30 - 8:30pm. Kodachrome, the slide-film that inspired songs, was discontinued by Kodak last year at 74 years of age. Made famous in Paul Simon’s 1973 song of its namesake, it has been a staple in photographers’ kit for many years and although it will no longer be processed it will always be revered by professional and fine art photographers, amateurs and keen snappers. Kodachrome is appreciated in the archival and professional market because of its colour accuracy and dark-storage longevity.

Upon hearing Kodak’s announcement that they will no longer be renewing stocks of Kodachrome, the AOP Gallery are hosting an exhibition of work shot on Kodachrome film to mark the end of an era from Tuesday 18th January 2011 – Thursday 10th February 2011. It will follow in the footsteps of the hugely successful Polaroid Retrospective exhibition we hosted in 2008.

The four-week exhibition will showcase a selection of images that will have originated from one of Kodachrome’s film products. The call for submissions will be open to AOP members and members of the public. The collection of images will be a reminiscent chapter in the history of photography.
