connecting contemporary art to Singapore's history
To coincide with the last day of Chankerk's current
exhibition titled Space - Activities - Culture, Art
historian Andrew YG Tan will deliver a presentation
explaining to audiences how Chankerk skillfully uses specific painting
techniques to express his ambivalence towards conservation and development
in Chinatown's heritage.
In his lecture, such sentiments are set against the backdrop of
200 years of upheaval in Tanjong Pagar, through great changes in
architecture and communities. With rich stories and images he will
highlight source material for artists, writers, the creative industries,
policy makers, and those with an interest in the Chinatown legacy of
Singapore.
This project is supported by the National Heritage Board's
Heritage Industry Incentive Programme (Hi2P)
