Non-profit organizations are growing steadily and intriguingly, offering today’s art scene alternative forms of expression and interaction with the public. And from New York to Kyoto, from Reykjavik to Paris, from Milan to Los Angeles and from Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok or Beijing, they are revealing a world-wide trend toward abandoning the traditional institutional channels, going against the market and coming up with their own strategies for the production and distribution of art.

travels to Flanders Gallery, Raleigh, NC
Basic Instinct - a mixed media exhibition curated by Sasha Okshteyn and in partnership with Black & White Gallery/Project Space, Brooklyn, NY. Collette, Jessica Lagunas, Natsu, Alicia Ross and Vadis Turner respond to curator Sasha Okshteyn’s theme of feminine essentialism, texturing familiar narratives and imagery of femaleness with their own versions and examinations of gendered identities and iconographies. "Basic Instinct" exhibited at the Black & White Gallery / Project Space from December 17th - January 23rd. The exhibition travels to Raleigh, North Carolina from February 4 - March 16, 2011.
