MARK MORRISROE

27 November 2010 until 13 February 2011
Fotomuseum Winterthur (Main Gallery + Gallery)

More than twenty years after his early death, Fotomuseum Winterthur presents the first comprehensive survey on
Mark Morrisroe's work. An extraordinarily diverse work that
has been usually shown in group shows and mostly in connection with his famous Boston colleagues Nan Goldin and David Armstrong. Like them, Morrisroe documented his circle
of friends, inspired by punk and bohemia. He finished
his studies at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston
in 1982, moved to New York in the middle of the 1980s, and died of AIDS-related diseases in 1989 at only thirty years old.

ARBEIT/LABOUR -
Set 7 from the Collection and Archive
of the Fotomuseum Winterthur

11 September 2010 until 8 May 2011
Fotomuseum Winterthur (Gallery of Collections)

We each relate to work in our own personal way. We may be employed or self employed; we may have just entered the workforce and have specific goals or we may be enjoying well-earned retirement. From its earliest beginnings, photography has captured how, where and under what conditions people work. The exhibition "Arbeit/Labour" traces the transition from physical labour to automation and computer-aided work environments in conjunction with migratory movement across continents and through decades.
