Video Art from the New China: An Introduction
Saturday, January 29 | 4:00 p.m.

This introductory screening surveys the development of the genre through a selection of key works—including performance, documentary, and fiction—featuring videos by artists across China. Followed by a Q&A with Wang Qingsong. Free; reservations required.

Video Art from the New China: Yang Fudong's Seven Intellectuals in a Bamboo Forest
Saturday, January 29 | 7:00 p.m.

See part III of contemporary artist Yang Fudong's five-part film project Seven Intellectuals in a Bamboo Forest, a reinterpretation of the classic Chinese legend of the Seven Sages—a group of Daoist intellectuals who fled sociopolitical chaos to live in a forest, untroubled by worldly matters. The evening begins with a rare screening of Backyard Hey! Sun is Rising, the precursor to Seven Intellectuals. Free; reservations required.
