At Art Rotterdam, Anouk Kruithof shows a large part of her new extensive project: Fragmented Entity (2011), which she has worked on since May 2008. A large pile of hand printed photo prints, done by the artist in the past 10 years, forms the basic material for the project. For this project Kruithof has cut out the recognition of the photographs and from the remaining pieces of paper she has created new photos, videos, objects and installations. Taken literally, Anouk Kruithof dissects the medium of photography. Figuratively speaking, the project is about letting go of emotional experiences. The cut up of her old photographs symbolizes letting go of a past, which entails memories. And not in a negative destructive way, but in a positive way: The old photo prints, recycled and transformed into a new installation, which acquires meaning in the present.
