Special Earlybird ticket offer closes soon.

Opening on 8 March 2011 fortyfivedownstairs presents Café Scheherazade. A new Australian play written by Therese Radic, based on the best-selling 2001 novel by Arnold Zable.

The work, directed by Bagryana Popov will feature Jacob Allan, Richard Bligh, Jim Daly, Marta Kaczmarek, Bruce Kerr and George Werther and klezmer musicians Ernie Gruner and Justin Marshall under the musical direction of Elissa Goodrich.

Adrienne Chisholm (designer) and Richard Vabre (lighting designer) will transform fortyfivedownstairs’ intimate theatre ambience to recall the charm and warmth of the original, iconic Acland Street café.

“These are such remarkable stories, based on the strength and resilience of the café’s founders, Avram and Masha, and that of the men who found a home away from home in the café. The tales of Café Scheherazade are inspirational."

Mary Lou Jelbart
fortyfivedownstairs Artistic Director
