Zenith Community Arts Foundation (ZCAF) unveiled the Freedom Place Collection to critical acclaim in fall 2007 at Zenith Gallery in Washington, DC and has since taken the exhibition to Meridian International House and the University of New England. The historic collection is owned by Washington residents Stuart Marshall Bloch and Ambassador Julia Chang Bloch who amassed the body of work over a 35-year period, and now wish to share it with the public. |
In conjunction with The Freedom Place Exhibition, the Zenith Community Arts will also showcase paintings from Robert Freeman's "Love Letters" series. The paintings are for sale and represent Freeman's more recent work. PRESS RELEASE

Robert Freeman is one of the two living artists in the exhibition "The Freedom Place Collection" on view thru Thursday, February 27, 2011 at Monroe Community College's Mercer Gallery.
Robert Freeman's art is widely collected and has been exhibited at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Newport Art Musuem, and in galleries in New York, New England, Washington DC and beyond. He received his BFA and MFA degrees from Boston University, and settled in that area where he is a respected artist and respected teacher. Freeman was artist-in-residence at Noble and at Greenough School from 1981 until his retirement, and a lecturer and instructor at Harvard from 1988 to 1994.
Mr. Freeman is much admired and collected for his bold, colorful brushwork and figurative paintings of well-heeled African-Americans at sophistocated gatherings. Characterized by overlapping shapes, energized lines and strong gesture, his subjects crowd to the front and edges of his canvases. VIEW EXHIBIT |
