"Synthia Saint James to Exhibit Works In Celebration of Black History Month"

In celebration of Black History Month, Voorhees College will exhibit the art of world renowned multicultural visual artist, Synthia SAINT JAMES, with the grand opening reception on Tuesday, February 1st at 6 p.m. in the Wright-Potts Library on the Voorhees College campus. Synthia SAINT JAMES will be in attendance. Synthia SAINT JAMES, who is also an author, popular speaker and architectural designer, will have 17 framed artworks in the exhibition including original paintings and fine art reproductions, and unframed fine art reproductions. All artwork will be available for purchase. Synthic Saint James has been a Premeire Portfolio Artist at absolutearts.com since 2001.

SAINT JAMES is most celebrated for designing the first Kwanzaa Stamp for the United States Postal Service for which she received a History Maker Award and for the international cover art for Terry McMillan’s book Waiting To Exhale.

His Excellency Nelson Mandela was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award created by Synthia SAINT JAMES for AFRICARE, an organization celebrating 40 years of service to Africa, at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. in November 2010.

In 2010 she also created the Mosaic Woman Award, and Dr. Maya Angelou was one of the first recipients, she was presented with the “Mosaic Woman Legend Award” from Diversity Woman Magazine in October 2010.

SAINT JAMES has garnered numerous awards over her forty-plus year career, including being the first painter to receive the prestigious Trumpet Award and her first Honorary Doctorate Degree from Saint Augustine’s College, both in 2010.

Synthia SAINT JAMES’ exhibition will continue throughout the month of February. The general public is invited to view and/or purchase her bold and beautiful artworks.
