Media release     1 February 2011

Harvest
Introducing the latest crop of talented graduates fresh from the Australian National University (ANU) School of Art, Canberra Institute of Technology and the University of Canberra, Harvest is a series of award exhibitions in the Crucible Showcases revealing what’s hot in Canberra.

The exhibition series, Harvest, provides assistance for selected graduating artists and designers of local tertiary institutions at the beginning of their independent studio practice. This exhibition opportunity also encourages emerging practitioners to remain in the region and to stay connected with local art, craft and design organisations, such as Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre, who are able to promote, support and assist practitioners throughout their careers.

Hannah Dalrymple, the first emerging artist to be featured in this series, is a graduate of the ANU School of Art Gold and Silver Workshop. Following Dalrymple, future Harvest exhibitors for 2011 include Kimberley Dixon, Deirdre Pearce, Annabelle Davidson, Elaine Bradley, Marco Chan, Edward Collett and George Thompson.

In 2011 Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre celebrates its 40th birthday. This is an exciting time to reflect on our achievements and acknowledge the people and events that have made a significant contribution to the growth and strength of the organisation, and to craft and design in Canberra.

Mr Jon Stanhope, Chief Minister, Australian Capital Territory, will be guest speaker at the official opening of the exhibitions and launch of the Centre’s 40th birthday celebratory year at 6.pm Thursday 10 February 2011. The exhibition continues until Saturday 19 March 2011 in Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre’s Crucible Showcases, Level 1 North Building, 180 London Circuit, Canberra City. The Centre is open Tuesday to Friday 10.am to 5.pm and Saturday 12.pm to 4.pm.
