KENOSHA, WI – Steve Rogstad presents a free program about Lincoln’s first 100 days in office at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Civil War Museum. The program in Freedom Hall is sponsored by the Milwaukee Civil War Round Table and the Iron Brigade Association. A day before Lincoln’s 52nd birthday, the President-elect left Springfield for Washington to take over the reins of the government. Over the next few months Lincoln faced many challenges: an assassination plot, managing a cabinet and the executive branch of government, and dealing with the Fort Sumter crisis. He also organized an army to suppress a rebellion, and developed rhetorical explanations for the Civil War. Lincoln scholar and Wisconsin Lincoln Bicentennial Commission member Steve Rogstad discusses President Lincoln’s response to each of these daunting challenges during his first 100 days in office.
