The final week of the Midsumma Identity exhibition and following the huge success of the Midsumma theatre events, February kicks off with the Melbourne premiere of Skin Tight by Gary Henderson.
Gallery : Identity
Midsumma
Until Saturday 5 February
It’s the last few days of the excellent group show Identity, part of the Midsumma Festival visual arts component.
Seven visual artists explore universal themes of love, identity and the factors that influence the way we live, using a wide range of different mediums.
It’s also the last chance to contribute to Rainbow Love, Catherine Johnston’s installation with focuses on love, the universal emotion. Read the beautiful messages already tied onto the sculpture, and write one yourself. Or bid for one of the enchanting toy bears created by many artists and designers for Toy to The World, which is raising funds and awareness for the Victorian AIDS Council.
Opening this week, Skin Tight, a stunning contemporary play from New Zealand.

Large Gallery : Andrea Jenkins
Comings and Goings
Tuesday 8 - Saturday 19 February
We all know that the hidden lanes are some of the most intriguing spaces in Melbourne, Andrea Jenkins takes us even further off the familiar streets, down into the mystery of the subterranean world of escalators and stairwells of the Flinders Street and Parliament stations. A journey that will be familiar to many, but seen from a fascinating new perspective.
Small Gallery : Hilary Senhanli
Crowds
Tuesday 8 - Saturday 19 February
Hilary Senhanli has achieved the extraordinary feat of inventing a new drawing medium. With a curious drawing implement she has designed, she drizzles a liquid black line, rendering complex masses of humanity with a black, honey-like substance which sets immediately. These works are crowded with life, waves of people washed together, little pockets of intimacy, children with a parent, groups of families or gangs of mates.
