NEW ENGLAND VISITS THE BIG APPLE!

Now Saturday, February 19th
CELESTE P. JANEY LECTURE

Mother and Son (Celeste P. Janey)
Mother and Son (Celeste P. Janey)

Yet another forecast of severe winter weather has led to the postponement of this Saturday's scheduled lecture by quilt artist Celeste P. Janey. She will now speak at 1 pm on Saturday, February 19th.

Janey is a member of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA). Her quilts incorporate embroidery, images and words in evocative, colorful works that delight both eye and mind. Her lectures combine poignant storytelling with a fascinating discussion of her journey as an artist.

The Janey lecture is part of the program of events associated with NO HOLDS BARRED, a juried exhibit of recent art quilts by New England-based members of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA). The exhibit continues at the Museum through April 9th.

Also on display from the Museum's Permanent Collection: a variety of Delectable Mountain quilts, plus two recent Museum acquisitions.

Saturday, March 5th: 10 a.m.
WEN REDMOND WORKSHOP

There are still a few spots open for the March 5th demonstration workshop by quilt artist Wen Redmond. The $15 fee for this workshop also includes an artist Q&A, entry to the NO HOLDS BARRED exhibit, plus a lecture and trunk show by Redmond. CLASS SIZE IS LIMITED, SO CALL TODAY TO CONFIRM YOUR PLACE: 978-452-4207 ext. 16.

You will learn simple printing techniques to bring nature into your work and go green. Techniques discussed were featured in Redmond's recent article in Quilting Arts Magazine (Dec/Jan 2011).

SILENT AUCTION OF ART QUILTS

More than two dozen art pieces by New England members of Studio Art Quilt Associates are being auctioned off during the NO HOLDS BARRED exhibit.

Bids start at $50. The silent auction closes March 19th, but buyers may end bidding with a confirmed bid of $300 on any item. Proceeds will benefit improving and upgrading gallery lighting at the Museum.

These works have been generously donated by the artists and all proceeds benefit the New England Quilt Museum. For more information, visit http://www.nequiltmuseum.org/SILENT_AUCTION_2011.pdf or email shop@nequiltmuseum.org.

THURSDAYS

COLLABORATIVE QUILTING WORKSHOP

Join us on Thursday, February 24th for our first Collaborative Quilting Workshop. This is a new program for 2011. Museum staff and volunteers will work together to turn "orphan" quilt blocks into colorful, happy quilts for residents of the Heritage Nursing Care Center in Lowell.

Over the course of nine workshops from February through June, we'll work together to design and assemble quilts using previously received donations of blocks and quilt tops.

Need refresher instruction on any aspect of quilting? No problem! Museum staff can go over all the basics. These workshops will be informative and fun, and the quilts will go to a wonderful cause.
