The Redfern Arts Center presents the acclaimed dancers of Philadanco, performing By Way of the Funk on Tuesday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Theatre. The performance represents the culmination of Philadanco’s 40-year history as a company that breaks barriers and bridges cultural divides, performing for audiences from many diverse communities.

Philadanco’s remarkable dancers have electrified audiences across the world with their innovative choreography and limitless range. Presenting a program that moves effortlessly from neoclassical to modern styles, Philadanco has developed a legendary reputation as one of world’s most dynamic dance companies. New York Magazine describes Philadanco’s unique style as “visceral – fierce and sensuous by turns – elegant, and ingratiating.” for a sneak peek at this terrific troupe.

Philadanco's performance at the Redfern will include a new piece called By Way of the Funk, which harnesses the energy and culture of funk music for an incredible evening of dance. The four parts include “How We Got to the Funk”, an exploration of music and movement from 50's to 70's; “Cool Baby, Cool”, minimalism as only cool can embody; “By Way of the Drum” the hotter side of funk; and “Standing on the Verge” a reflection of the Funkadelics’ notoriously outrageous costumes and in your face performances.

In addition, don’t miss a rare chance to meet some of these amazing performers up close, when the Redfern Arts Center hosts a reception from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. on the night of the performance in the Main Lobby. Audiences can enjoy an exciting evening of interaction with company director Joan Allen Brown as well as some of Philadanco dancers, moments before they take the stage to perform. The reception is co-sponsored by KSC’s Campus Commission on Diversity and Multiculturalism; appetizers, desserts and refreshments will be served.

Tickets and information are available at the Redfern Arts Center box office, 603-358-2168, or online at http://www.keene.edu/racbp.
