Tuesday, March 1: Civil War Museum Workshop: Civil War Arms, Technology, and Uniforms 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Civil War era weapons are the focus of the program, as Steve Sherry brings examples of cavalry and infantry weapons and discusses the accuracy, range, and ammunition of the various firearms of Union and Confederate soldiers. See images of uniforms worn by soldiers during the early years of the war. Cost of the workshop is $15 or 10 for Friends of Museums. Advance registration is required.
Friday, March 4: Kenosha Public Museum Travelogue: Iran - Then and Now 7:30 p.m. at Reuther Auditorium. Enter the nation of Iran with your travel guide and producer Buddy Hatton; he'll transport you through this fascinating country as you discover historical cities, ancient ruins, colorful bazaars, shimmering deserts, lofty snow-capped peaks, glorious mosques, and majestic palaces. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.; seating is unreserved. Travelogues are free and sponsored in part by a grant from the Kenosha News and Parkside Manor.

Saturday, March 5: Civil War Museum Youth Workshop: Create and Stitch 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Have fun with instructor Carolyn Wheeler, creating and stitching a pot holder. Students learn basic hand embroidery and quilting techniques to create this fun and useful project. Cost of workshop is $20 or $15 for Friends of Museums. Advance registration is required.

Saturday, March 5: Kenosha Public Museum Workshop: Precious Metal Clay for Beginners 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Experience the magic of turning a lump of polyurethane clay into fine silver pendants and earrings. Students can bring favorite leaves, stampers, or objects for an all over texture. After class, the instructor will fire, polish, and return your pieces to the Museum where you can pick them up. A supply fee of $36 is paid to the instructor which includes the silver clay and use of the instructor's tools. Samples on view at the Kenosha Public Museum gift shop. Cost of the workshop is $42 or $37 for Friends of the Museums. Advance registration is required.

Saturday, March 5: Kenosha Public Museum Program: Women of Islam 2 p.m. Latifa Musleh, of Kenosha, shares her personal experiences of being a Muslim woman. She answers some of the stereotypical questions she is often asked; whether or not Muslim women can choose their own spouse or if all marriages are arranged, if a male in the family can force a woman to cover her hair (Hijab), and if Muslim women are oppressed or liberated. She says these questions “never fail to put a smile on my face”. Learn what it is like to be a Muslim in 21 st century America. This program is free and open to the public.

Saturday, March 5: Civil War Museum Living History Group: Confederate Day with the 154 th Tennessee 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The Confederate Army invades Wisconsin as members of the 154 th Tennessee set up an infantry camp inside the Civil War Museum's Freedom Hall. Participate in hands-on demonstrations of a Civil War-era recruiting rally, the camp life of the Confederate soldier, food preparation, Civil War medicine, marching and drill. Weather permitting, the group will also do outside demonstrations. This program is free and open to the public.

Saturday, March 5 through Sunday, March 6: Kenosha Public Museum Workshop: Towering Gretchen Tote 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 5 and 12:30 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 6 This 6”x14”x12” filled-bottom basket features a twined arrow weave and sloped sides with a 6”x20” wood “D” handle. Natural, smoked, and dyed reed add accents. Students finish the basket with a Gretchen braided border. A $21 materials fee is paid to the instructor on the first day of class. A sample is on view at the Kenosha Public Museum gift shop. Cost of the workshop is $45 or $40 for Friends of the Museums. Advance registration is required.

Friday, March 11: Civil War Museum Special Event: Luck o' the Irish Party 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Enjoy Irish food and beverages, a Limerick contest, and live music by Wilde Thyme and Jeff Ward to celebrate the Luck o' the Irish the Civil War Museum. Cost is $30 or $25 for Friends of the Museums. Registration is required by March 4.

Friday, March 11: Civil War Museum Program: The Second Friday Lunchbox Lecture Series - Colonel Elmer Ellsworth 12 – 1 p.m. A young Chicago clerk, Elmer Ephraim Ellsworth, organized a company of Zouaves for the Union Army at the beginning of the Civil War. In May 1861 his New York Zouave regiment helped to take Alexandra, Virginia, where he was killed. He was a friend and election aide of Abraham Lincoln. The death of Colonel Elmer Ellsworth, the first prominent Union casualty of the war, is discussed by the Civil War Museum Curator, Doug Dammann. Bring your own lunch to this free program. Snacks and beverages available in Museum vending machines.

Saturday, March 12: Civil War Museum Guided Tours of the Fiery Trial 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The exhibit takes visitors back in history through state-of-the-art technology and interactive exhibits. Guided tours start at the exhibit entrance. The tours are offered free of charge with the purchase of admission to the exhibit.

Saturday, March 12 through Sunday, March 13: Civil War Museum Living History Group: Civil War Medical Weekend with 17 th Corps Medical Staff 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5 and 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 5. Surgeons and nurses of the 17 th Corps medical staff will set up camp inside the Civil War Museum's Freedom Hall. Museum visitors can participate in a medical inspection for new recruits and role play as a sick soldier during the camp's sick call demonstration. The Corps will also demonstrate a variety of surgical techniques including bullet removal, brain surgery, and amputation Volunteering for the surgical activities is not recommended. The program is free and open to the public.

Sunday, March 13: Civil War Museum Workshop: Northeastern Chinese Cuisine 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. Northeast China is known for wheat production. The cuisine of this area is filled with noodles and steamed dumplings. Watch and learn as Ying Stoller prepares lo mein and moo shu chicken, which is traditionally eaten with a wheat “pancake”. Cost of this workshop is $25 or $20 for Friends of the Museums.Advance registration is required.

Sunday, March 13: Civil War Museum Workshop: Finding Your Civil War Ancestors 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. If you think you may have a Civil War ancestor, join Jean Hoffmann and learn the basics of genealogical research using U.S. records and the Internet. Discover ways to find ancestors through military and/or census records, and methods of tracking the wife or daughter of a veteran. Cost of the workshop is $15 or $10 for Friends of the Museums.

Tuesday, March 15: Kenosha Public Museum Program: Fused Glass Jewelry 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Make up to 4 pendants – from funky to classic – using different fusible glass components. Learn about fused glass techniques. A supply fee of $25 is paid to the instructor. If you have your own stained glass cutting tools, bring them with you. If you don't, tools will be provided by instructor Jayne Herring. Your creations will be fired off-site after the workshop and a date for pick-up will be arranged. Cost of workshop is $22 or $17 for Friends of the Museums.

Wednesday, March 16: Kenosha Public Museums Spring Family Fun Day 1 to 4 p.m. Join us for free fun the whole family can enjoy. Go wild about animals at the Kenosha Pubic Museum. Come say goodbye to the “Wild About Animals” exhibit and join in on a whole “herd” of animal activities. Stop by the Dinosaur Discovery Museum to dig for dinosaurs and make your own dinosaur diorama. Then drop by the Civil War Museum to try on clothing and footwear from the Civil War, while learning the importance of each item of clothing. Programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Museums.

Saturday, March 19: Kenosha Public Museum Workshop: Cut Straw Goose Eggs of Slovakia 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. These beautiful eggs, made by applying small pieces of cut straw to their surface, can be as ornate or simple as you desire. Learn the technique from a Slovak Master Folk Artist, Sidonka Wadina. A supply fee of $12 is paid to the instructor the day of the class. The fee includes one colored goose egg; prepared and flattened straw for application; glue; pattern and design sheets. Students are asked to bring a hand towel and small sharp scissors. Class size is limited to 14, so please register early. Cost is $28 or $23 for Friends of the Museums.

Saturday, March 19: Kenosha Public Museum National Quilt Day 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Quilts by members of the Southport Quilter Guild will be on display in Daimler Chrysler Hall from March 5 th -27 th . This year's theme, “Quilts in Bloom” includes a quilt challenge, “Home Grown Quilts.” Guild members are challenged to create a small quilt based on a packet of flower or vegetable seeds. Vote for your favorite. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. watch the “Quilts in Bloom” Show & “Home Grown Quilts” quilt challenge by Southport Quilters Guild Members on display in DaimlerChrysler Hall. Wendy Rieves gives a Quilt Lecture at 2 p.m. Wendy is a quilting instructor, lecturer, prize winning quilter, and soon-to-be author. She has been quilting for 17 years and lectures to and teachers quilters throughout the Midwest. Wendy presents a trunk show of various floral and landscape quilts from her collection. Those in attendance will receive a free small pattern. Free tickets available the day of the presentation beginning at 9 a.m. Seating is limited and unreserved.

Saturday, March 19: Civil War Museum Workshop: Intermediate Soap Making Instructor Laura Zielinski teaches how to add fragrance and color to handmade soap to make it uniquely your own. Create one pound of soap in the color and scent of your choice. A supply fee of $15 is paid to the instructor the day of the class. Cost of workshop is $15 or $10 for Friends of the Museums.Advance registration is required.

Sunday, March 20: Kenosha Public Museums Sunday Funday 1 – 4 p.m. Free fun for the whole family! Have fun with quilting at the Kenosha Public Museum Quilts Are Blooming , creating a “Signs of Spring” quilt and go on a scavenger hunt. Stop by the Dinosaur Discovery Museum for Bones, Teeth, and Horns, to see how your skeleton bones stack up next to a dinosaur's. You'll also learn why paleontologists study teeth, then make your own dinosaur crest to impress your friends. Drop by the Civil War Museum to play Era Games, simple and clever games that children and adults played during the 19th century. Programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Museums.

Wednesday, March 23: Civil War Museum Program: Civil War Media Club: Causes Won, Lost, and Forgotten 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. Discuss Causes Won, Lost and Forgotten: How Hollywood and Popular Art Shape What We Know About the Civil War by Gray Gallagher with Civil War Curator, Doug Dammann. With the 150 th Anniversary of the Civil War upon us, this book is particularly timely as it discusses how popular culture molds how we remember the war. Cost is $10 or $5 for Friends of the Museums. Advance registration is required.

Friday, March 25: Kenosha Public Museum Travelogue: Portugal & Cruising the Douro 7:30 p.m. at Reuther Auditorium. Portugal offers a vast array of scenery between warm, sandy beaches, rugged mountain landscapes, and pastoral countryside dotted with vineyards and fertile farms. Follow filmmakers Clint and Sue Denn as they set eyes and lens on Portugal from her historic cities of Lisbon and Porto to small fishing villages and sunny beaches. Enjoy the famous port wine regions with a cruise on the picturesque Douro River. Doors open at 6:45 p.m., seating is unreserved. Travelogues are free and sponsored in part by a grant from the Kenosha News and Parkside Manor.

Saturday, March 26: Kenosha Public Museum Workshop: Panoramic Sugar Easter Eggs 1 – 3:30 p.m. You will learn how to make these classic Easter eggs from a Slovak Master Fold Artist, Sidonka Wadina, as well as basic cake decorating borders and flowers. A supply fee of $12 is paid to the instructor the day of the class. The fee includes one 6” sugar egg, frosting, small chicks or bunnies, royal icing flowers and recipes. Class size is limited to 12 so please register early. Cost of the workshop is $28 or $23 for Friends of the Museums. Advanced registration required.

Saturday, March 26: Civil War Museum Living History Expo 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. The Historical Timekeepers, with history groups from around the Midwest will present historical displays on the Civil War programs. Living history programs will be presented throughout the day. The event is free and open to the public.

Saturday, March 26: Kenosha Public Museum Family Workshop: Ukrainian Egg Decorating 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Learn the basics of tradition Ukrainian egg decorating or “pysanky” with instructor Jill Montgomery. Instructions, eggs, two kistky, beeswax, candle and dyes are included in the class fee of $25 or $20 for Friends of the Museums. Additional supplies can be purchased in the Museum gift shop. The class is aimed at children in third through eighth grades; one adult is required to accompany every child. Advance registration is required.

Sunday, March 27: Civil War Museum Cooking Workshop: Rita's Birthday Bash 2:30-4:30 p.m. Rita Ramacci celebrates her birthday with some of her favorite foods, including chicken marsala, pasta and birthday cake. Cost is $25 or $20 for Friends of the Museums. Advance registration is required. Class includes demonstration, recipes, sampling and a bottle of water.
