Museum Winter Hours: Sunday 12-5 p.m., Tuesday - Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Closed Mondays and holidays through Feb. 28. Beginning March 1, Monday hours: 12-5 p.m. General Admission is $7, Kenosha/Somers Residents $5. Friends of the Museums members and children 15 and younger are admitted free of charge.

Special Exhibits
Kenosha Public Museum Exhibit: Rembrandt Etchings: States Fakes and Restrikes in the South Gallery through Feb. 27, 2011. The exhibit includes 30 etching created by Rembrandt, including first states pulls, various restrike editions from the 17th century on, pieces from the Millennium Edition of the late 20th century, and copies of Rembrandt etchings made by other artists from the 18th through 19th centuries. This exhibition made possible by Mathis Gallery and Conservation Framing, Racine.

Southport Quilters Guild Exhibit: Quilts in Bloom on display at the Kenosha Public Museum March 5-27, 2011. The show includes a quilt challenge with the theme, Home Grown Quilts. Members are challenged to create a small quilt based on a packet of flower or vegetable seeds. The public can vote for a favorite from the show.

Kenosha Public Museum Exhibit: At the Edge of the Ice: Mammoth, Mastodons and More on display in the West Gallery through November 2011. The exhibit explores the history of mammoths and mastodons in Kenosha County during the Ice Age. Over the years, many parts of mammoths, mastodons and even extinct musk ox have been discovered in Kenosha County. Ice Age bones from the museum's collection will be on display, including mammoth, mastodon, musk ox, bison, wolf, camel, caribou, horse, and fox.

Kenosha Public Museum Exhibit: American Printmaking Revolution: Ron & Mary Ruble Collection on display in the East Gallery through March 27, 2011. Seventy years of art by the country's leading printmakers are represented in the exhibit. It showcases the Renaissance of printmaking, from its founders to Wisconsin studio printmakers and their successors.

Kenosha Public Museum Exhibit: Islamic Cultural Display on display in the Mary Frost Ashley Treasures Gallery through March 27, 2011. The display includes exquisite religious and cultural items from the Muslim world. Clothing, rugs, tea sets and other decorative items are included in the exhibit. Clothing items include a red bridal outfit from Pakistan, a sari from India and a shawl from Pakistan. The display was made possible through assistance from the Islamic Society of Southeastern Wisconsin.

Kenosha Public Museum Exhibit: Inuit Art Display from the Museum Collection on display in the Abbott Labs Gallery through November 2011. Artifacts in the exhibit are from the Inuit, Inupiat and Yupik cultures of the arctic regions of North America. Included are everyday items: fur clothing, seal skin boots, baskets, fish spears, a bone snow knife and a caribou antler spoon. There are decorative items including dolls and carvings, and items used for entertainment: reindeer hair dance fans and a walrus tusk cribbage board.

Civil War Museum Exhibit: Bodices, Bonnets and Weeds: Civil War and Mid-Victorian Fashions on display in the John M. Antaramian Gallery through September 2011. The exhibit presents a timeline of common middle class day wear fashions between 1860 and 1880. Original artifacts and photographs show how fashion and style changed from the Civil War years into the 1870s.The collection of artifacts on display is on loan from private collector Nancy Wolfe of Galena, Ill.

Dinosaur Discovery Museum Exhibit: Malcolm Mlodoch: Museum Model Making on display in the Friends Gallery through July 10, 2011. Mlodoch created many of the animals and people in the dioramas at the Kenosha Public Museum. A selection of his dinosaur models from tiny toys to full-scale dioramas will be on display.

Friday, February 11: Civil War Museum Program: The Second Friday Lunchbox Lecture Series - We The People 12-1 p.m. Join Brett Lobello, the Civil War Curator of Education, to learn about more about the U.S. Constitution. Discuss the similarities, differences, and problems facing both the Confederate States of America and the organization of the new Lincoln administration from February of 1861. Bring your own lunch to this free program. Snacks and beverages available in Museum vending machines.

Saturday, February 12: Civil War Museum Guided Tours of the Fiery Trial 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The exhibit takes visitors back in history through state-of-the-art technology and interactive exhibits. Guided tours start at the exhibit entrance. The tours are offered free of charge with the purchase of admission to the exhibit.

Saturday, February 12: Kenosha Public Museum 2011 African American Read-In Join us for readings of literary works including poetry, short stories, and children's books by African American authors. Adult and youth readers from our community lend their voices to the words of African American writers. 2011 marks the 22 nd anniversary of the “National African American Read-In,” an event sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English and it's Black Caucus.

Saturday, February 12: Civil War Museum Kenosha County Archaeological Society Meeting 1:30 p.m. Join the Kenosha County Archaeological Society for this free public program in the Seminar Room at the Civil War Museum.

Saturday, February 12: Civil War Museum Program: Lincoln's First 100 Days 1:00 p.m. A day before Lincoln's 52 nd birthday, the President-elect left Springfield for Washington to take over the reins of the government. Over the next few months Lincoln faced an assassination plot, learned how to manage a Cabinet and the Executive Branch of government, dealt with the Fort Sumter crisis, organized an army to suppress a rebellion, and developed rhetorical explanations for the Civil War. Lincoln scholar and Wisconsin Lincoln Bicentennial Commission member Steve Rogstad discusses President Lincoln's response to each of these daunting challenges during his first 100 days in office. This free public presentation by Steve Rogstad is held in Freedom Hall, and is sponsored by the Milwaukee Civil War Round Table and the Iron Brigade Association.

Saturday, February 12: Kenosha Public Museum Workshop: Gypsy Market Tote Basket 9:30 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. Learn how to make a gypsy market tote basket with instructor Sandy Bulgrin. This market-style basket has a wood “D” handle and is woven with natural spokes and dyed weavers. Students choose from a wide variety of sizes and colors to weave in their own unique basket. A materials fee of $19 is paid to the instructor the day of the class. A sample is on view at the Kenosha Public Museum gift shop. Cost of the workshop is $33 or $28 for Friends of the Museums. Advance registration is required.

Sunday, February 13: Civil War Museum Workshop: Intermediate Genealogy 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. This workshop with Jean Hoffmann picks up where Beginning Genealogy left off. Discuss equipment needed for computerizing your records; posting records on the web; preparing for trips to local repositories and what you will find there; organizing and attending a family reunion, including how to interview relatives, and what to do about “brick walls” in your research. Cost is $15 or $10 for Friends of the Museums. Advance registration is required.

Friday, February 18: Kenosha Public Museum Travelogue: La Belle France 7:30 p.m. at Reuther Auditorium. From the beaches of Normandy to the Old Port at Marseilles, come experience France as seen through the lens of American folk musicians Monty and Marsha Brown. Stroll along the Seine in Paris; tour famous Mont St. Michel; marvel at Roman monuments; experience the Grand Parc Puy du Fou, the Windmill of Daudet, the last visitors of Van Gogh, and so much more. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.; seating is unreserved. Travelogues are free and sponsored in part by a grant from the Kenosha News and Parkside Manor.

Sunday, February 20: Civil War Museum Cooking Workshop: Lighten Up Your Meals 2:30-4:30 p.m. Rita Ramacci demonstrates recipes including lighter versions of classic recipes. She shows how to pump up the nutrition and use fresh herbs and vegetables. Cost is $25 or $20 for Friends of the Museums. Advance registration is required. Class includes demonstration, recipes, sampling and a bottle of water.

Sunday, February 20: Civil War Museum Program: Quilts and the underground Railroad 1:00 p.m. It has been suggested the quilts were used extensively as a means of communication to slaves escaping on the Underground Railroad. Learn about the underground Railroad and the idea of how, if, and to what extent, quilts were used during that period. Also find out how quilts were used during the years of the Civil War and the women who created them. This free public presentation by Donna Agnelly is held in Freedom Hall, and is sponsored by the Milwaukee Civil War Round Table and the Iron Brigade Association.

Friday, February 25: Dinosaur Discovery Museum Family Program: Dino Story Telling 1-4 p.m. Stop in, turn on your imagination, and watch the exhibits come to life through engaging storytelling. Fun facts and cool props will set the scene for your dinosaur adventure. You may just find yourself becoming a part of the story. A free and fun family event for all ages. Stories will start every hour.

Saturday, February 26: Civil War Museum Workshop: Baubles, Bangles, and Beads: A Look at Civil War-Era Jewelry 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Whether it was worn as an ornament, a love token or a remembrance, jewelry of the Civil War-era not only completed the well-dressed lady's attire but also denoted her position in society. Look at the styles and types of jewelry and how to identify jewelry of this period with instructor Terry Arliskas. Cost of the workshop is $11 or $6 for Friends of the Museums. Advance registration is required.

Sunday, February 27: Kenosha Public Museums Sunday Funday Family Programs 1-4 p.m. Fun, family activities are featured at three museums. Elephants Then & Now at the Kenosha Public Museum where you'll compare modern elephants to elephants that lived in Kenosha during the ice age. Stop by the Dinosaur Discovery Museum for Fossils: Ancient Tales to find out what fossils have to do with the legend of cyclops or even dragons. The Civil War Museum presents Down Home on the Frontier , where the whole family will step back in time and try your hand at everyday frontier chores. The programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Museums.
