La Reunion TX Announces Appointment of Catherine A. Horsey As Executive Director

The board of directors of La Reunion TX, an emerging artists residency program in Dallas, has announced the appointment of Catherine Horsey as executive director of the nonprofit organization.

La Reunion TX (LRTX) was founded five years ago to support artists and their creation of new work by providing a place of retreat from their everyday lives. For the last four years, the group has operated out of a forested 35-acre tract in north Oak Cliff, working in collaboration with such groups as the Nasher Sculpture Center, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Dallas Independent School District, the Dallas Art Dealers Association and the Deaf Action Center, as well as numerous independent artists, to create and exhibit art on and from the site. A walk along the trails now reveals a series of ephemeral, thought-provoking art pieces made from materials found on site, designed to enhance their natural surroundings.

The group is now prepared to enter a second phase that will fulfill its mission: to create an on-site residency. With best use of existing resources in mind, LRTX will undertake to rehabilitate two existing, now-derelict structures for studio and residence space.

Horsey’s role is to facilitate the transition between the earlier, primarily programmatic phase and the group’s current plans. A veteran nonprofit manager, Horsey’s background includes real-estate development, green building policy development, sustainability education, and building rehabilitation. She was long-time executive director of Preservation Dallas and worked on planning for the residential development Urban Reserve and the Trinity River and Dogwood Canyon Audubon Centers. She has been a geologist and a master naturalist and has been recognized by Preservation Dallas and the U.S. Green Building Council for her work in the realm of sustainable building practice.

“Many elements of Catherine’s varied background and knowledge make her the right person at the right time for LRTX,” says Jessica Stewart Lendvay, president of La Reunion TX. “We look forward to working with her to make the artists’ residency aspect of our mission a reality.”

The La Reunion TX site is privately owned and open to the public only by appointment. For more information, see www.lareuniontx.org or email info@lareuniontx.org.
