Grace Space has the extreme pleasure to welcome: ALI AL-FATLAWI AND WATHIQ AL-AMERI
Performance artists from Baghdad, Iraq via Zurich, Switzerland.
Escaping Saddam Hussein's Iraq is an incredible adventure that landed them in Europe . . . And it is out of this state of limbo - of being in one country while belonging to another – that they create their performances.
We will also be hosting more performances by special artists

Al-Fatlawi and Wathiq Al-Ameri
Through their performances, Ali Al-Fatlawi and Wathiq Al-Ameri present their experiences as, 'My view is the view from exile'. This perspective allows them a critical attitude, coupled with the hope of returning to their home country.
Mr. Al-Fatlawi and Mr. Al-Ameri have known each other since childhood and both received a classical education at the University of Fine Arts of Baghdad. Together, they escape the regime of Saddam and went on an incredible Odyssey - with false papers and 3 U.S. dollars in their pockets, they crossed the border into Jordan. In Jordan they became "copyists" of classical Arabic painting and by selling these reproductions, they acquired enough money to: travel through Sudan, ride in a truck across the Sahara, pass through Libya, arrive in Switzerland. In Zurich, the artists joined the studio Urnamo, where they share ideas and develop their art with F + F art and media school in Zurich.
During 10 years of performing together, their works have always had the same basic idea: to combine materials and create new visual images. The inexhaustible possibilities that can happen at random, when large volumes of existing materials are combined, always renews the performances and its energy. The work is monotonous if no change is perceived.
